Reception 2019 - 20

Welcome to Reception!

Reception is a safe, stimulating and happy environment where children are nurtured and cared for. We work in partnership with our parents and carers to ensure that our children reach their full potential, learning through their play.

Members of staff in Reception:

Miss Ruane - Class Teacher

Miss Gee - Class Teacher

Mrs Gallagher - Teaching Assistant

Mrs Peers - Teaching Assistant

Miss Stockton - Teaching Assistant

The Early Years Foundation Stage  (EYFS) is built around both indoor and outdoor environments. These are designed to allow the children to develop the confidence and independence they need to become engaged in their learning. Resources are clearly labelled and stored in a way which enables the children to get them out and put them away by themselves. This encourages them to develop a sense of care and responsibility towards their classroom and they can make their own choices about what to use and when to use it.

There are 7 Areas of Learning in the EYFS curriculum. We deliver the curriculum through planned, purposeful play that is based upon the interests and learning needs of each unique child.

The 7 Areas of Learning are:

Prime Areas

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Physical Development

Communication and Language

Specific Areas

Understanding the World

Expressive Arts and Design

Outdoor Play
Children are able to access a wide range of learning areas including, among others, sand, water, large construction, messy play and a mud kitchen. The outdoor area is seen as an integral part of Reception’s provision and it has been planned to enable those children who prefer to learn outside for some or most of the time to engage in the same quality of learning as they would indoors.

Physical Education

Every Friday morning Reception will have a PE lesson. Please ensure that all PE kit is in school and is fully named. Children's hair should be tied up and earrings removed, if necessary. We will send home PE kits at the end of each half term.

Reading books

Children will bring home a reading book daily. Please write in your child's planner when they have read at home. We like the children to read their book 3 times before it is changed. This helps to develop their reading and comprehension skills. Books are also available on 'Bug Club'. Click on the link to go to their website:

We charge termly for toast, and also provide milk and fruit daily. This helps the children to learn about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.

Our value this term is 'Responsibility'. We will learning about the meaning of responsibility, who is responsible for us and what we are responsible for.

What we are learning this term:

Our topic over the Spring Term is 'Land before time'.
